Late Halloween

Sorry for the late Halloween photos! Honestly I had forgotten about them until I saw them all stored in the camera today.. oops! But here they are, better late than nothing :)

Cookie in her Halloween costume. All but the hat. She isn't too fond of the hat but she does like the costume itself. It keeps her warm during the long trick or treating night. We walk while my little sister goes around getting candy. Cookie really loves the attention and all the "Aww look at that cute dog" comments she gets.

And some random photos of the night:

These are from my little cousin's party which was a week before Halloween but my aunt usually likes to make him costume parties. She made good salsa this year!

Horse Madness

This is one of the horses that live behind our house. The owner is renting the land for them. They are all so friendly and come over when you call them. Yesterday two of them got out somehow and ended up on the neighbor's house. He also owns horses so he was able to hold them and feed them while their owner went over.

It isn't the first time it happens! Some time ago all five horses knocked down the electrical fence to eat grass from our front yard. My uncle tried to take them back but instead they ran towards the street.. thanks to Yukon that was barking nonstop. They stopped the traffic, luckily no one got hurt. It took a lot of people and patience to take them back. Their owner comes over every morning to check on them and feed them but he needs to do something about that fence! It is supposed to get charged with sunlight and if the horses try to cross it they will get shocked, but somehow it isn't working since the horses keep coming out.

Hopefully this will be the last time it happens. Horses are such beautiful and amazing animals don't you think?

Snow is here

I was getting happy that we were going to have a warm Halloween this year.. and then it snows! Who am I kidding, we've never had a warm Halloween here!

So I went out and took some photos of the ice. It was very cloudy today and yesterday it snowed nonstop all day long.

Snow is beautiful, everything is so white and dreamy! But I really dislike the cold it brings after it freezes up. I get cold very easily.

I used flash on this one. Look at the difference!

The best dog in the world

I tell Cookie all the time that she is the best dog in the world. In a way she is. The only one that is always there for me no matter what, the one that always cheers me up. Always at my side not caring to what others have to say, if I have a job or not, if I'm a little weird, ugly a or a total loser. Cookie just loves me for who I am and nothing else. I'm her person and she is my dog and that's the greatest bond there is! UNBREAKABLE!
But I have to admit that she is a little brat.. a little demanding brat!
"I want to go to the bathroom" she says, "Lets go wrestle", "I'm hungry",
"I want out","My water bowl is empty", "Pay attention to me 24/7!!" Okay is not like she talks but she sure knows how to communicate with me and she knows exactly how to let me know what she wants. Yep that's Cookie...

And then there's Yukon..
The dog that came to us one night, the dog that stole my heart as soon as I saw him standing on the back porch looking right trough me with those warm brown eyes. He is not demanding at all. All he wants is to be loved.
I can go all day without saying a single word to him but when I do, when I say "Hey boy, what's up?" His face just brightens up with that HUGE smile of his like if I just told him he won a thousand pounds of meat. Then he tilts his head to the side with a curious expression wondering what comes next.. a belly rub! his favorite thing in the world! and at that time there's nothing in the world that he would rather have because he is the happiest dog in the world. No matter what he is ALWAYS happy, and no matter what he always brings a smile to my face :)

When it comes to being a dog having a dog's life.. Yukon is truly the best dog in the world. Wouldn't it be nice if everyone on earth was just like him? To always find the happiness in life no matter what!

A photo from today.. doesn't it make you smile?

Photographers out there.. I need your help!

I was asked this morning by my cousin if I could take her Senior Pictures. The thing is I have no idea if I can do something like that! I'm terrible with portraits and I don't have the equipment for such a photo.
I haven't given her an answer yet. I want to be sure I can do it first. What do you all think?

All I have is a point and shoot camera: Canon PowerShot A460. I need tips!

What is the best lighting for that kind of photo? Best settings? Best time of day? Poses?

I appreciate any help given very very much :)

Fall is taking over

Autumn Leaves
Leaves in the autumn came tumbling down,
Scarlet and yellow, russet and brown,
Leaves in the garden were swept in a heap,
Trees were undressing, ready for sleep.

Take a Look

I'm still having trouble making this blog look nice. It just doesn't convince me. As you know this is a blog about photos. So I want to make the photos the first thing people notice when they visit, the center of attention.
I want it to look clean and not crowded. I've put a poll on the sidebar to see what you think will be the best background for a photoblog. If you choose "other" can you please specify by leaving a comment here in this post? I want to improve the look of this blog and for that I need you! My readers which are the most important. You are what keep me going. Thank you :)

At The Park

Michelle and her bike

Okay by now you must be thinking what's up with me and photographing my sister on bridges right?
Well to be honest I didn't really want to photograph Michelle on this one. I wanted to take a photo of the bridge by itself but my sister wouldn't move. She was too busy looking at a fisherman down in the river. But I think having her in the photo made it better don't you think?

Orange Chills Down My Spine (Camera Critters #80)

Do you know how hard it was for me to take this shot? Okay I have to admit this isn't the best photo of a spider, but this is as good as it gets for me and spiders. I am terrified of them. I wasn't always scared of arachnids, it all started when I moved into a house full of them. Now I can't stand them, not even a photo of them. So creepy and crawly!

Does any one know what kind of spider this is?

Visit more crawly critters and what not here.

I had to climb a ladder to get this close, it wasn't a very stable one and it moved a little. There was a wasp flying around me way too close. I dislike wasps.. I have been stung by them four times! and it hurts. I had to be so close for the point and shoot to focus on that spider and suddenly I saw that wasp trying to land on my face. I waved my hand so it would fly away and then the spider stood up! Its front legs waving in the air like claws and I felt like it was going to jump at me at any moment. I could see its eyes looking at me and then I felt it.

That feeling I get when my terror for spiders washes over me. Like if all the blood in my body went up to my head and I start to feel very hot! My heart goes faster every second and I feel the need to scream.
Enough I said. I think I got enough shots.

I felt spiders crawling all over me for the rest of the day.

On another note: I made the font slightly bigger and the sidebar titles stand out more don't they? Thank you Quilt Works and Allegria for the suggestions :)
